A story which many aspirants like me can relate to..

To tell you in brief about myself, I am a hard-working, not so extra-ordinarily talented male engineer from BIT and aspiring to do MBA from every aspirant’s dream, IIM. Now, here comes a very important question: - will I be able to convert my dream into a reality??

Like many others I also prepared for CAT this year and got a not so descent 99 percentile this year which didn’t fetch me any call from the older IIM’S because of the following reasons:-

I have a bad profile (87% in 10th cbse , 92% in 12th cbse, 76% in a college where only 2 students in my branch got above 80%, 1 international , 4 nationals , 7 states , few more districts and inter/intra-school/college awards) because of which I didn’t get a call from IIM A,B,I,K,L,S. Individually speaking, IIM I called 3168 aspirants , IIM L and IIM K called around 3000 aspirants each but because of a bad profile even after getting 99%ile I couldn’t manage any call, IIM A put a criterion of an application rating index score 27 which implied that if you don’t have a through-out 80% then even after being a 100%iler your dreams will be shattered straight away . IIM S wanted 85% in engineering that means people from BIT Mesra and many other universities like BIT can’t even think of studying over there. Talking about IIM B, they themselves don’t know about what do they want, initially they didn’t even call two 100%ilers and suddenly after 1 week those 2 people got a mail that congratulations, you have been shortlisted for the IIM B interview process. Finally, I was left with IIM C (heaven for all those who wake up late in their lives and by the time they start studying it becomes too late for them.) and unfortunately I fell short of percentile for fetching a call from it.

To add to the adversity we do have some very experienced professors in the country who feel that Girls know more about their future goals and are more carrier oriented. There are many who feels that we lag behind the topmost universities in the world   when it comes to gender diversity: universities like Harvard have 39.8% girls, LSB has approx. 45% of girls whereas iim’s have an average of only 23% girls. So, to compete with one of the finest universities in the world they have started giving extra marks to the girl candidates forgetting that the ratio in which the candidates apply over there is much more balanced vis-à-vis Indian universities.

Quota system: - the favorite topic for many in this country.

I am not completely against the quota system but the way it is implemented in our country gives a serious pain to many.
Although it’s a waste of time thinking about restructuring the entire quota system but still a small effort can help me in venting out anger.
Can’t we have a free education/subsidies/quota at the basic/primary education level so that once the needy people come at par, they can face the cut throat competition and justify their selection into any prestigious institution/job of this country.
Can’t we have a restriction on the no. of generations leveraging the quota seats advantage. This can actually give them another means of motivation to study hard, get at par with the society and once they are at par then let the other generations face the same challenges which other aspirants face.
I believe that the above methods if implemented can change the face of our country on the global map.

I don’t know whether I will be able to convert my dream into a reality but i promise my own self  to strike back and strike back hard so that, one day “MY NAME IS QUOTED AT EACH AND EVERY IIM AS ONE OF THE BEST ENTREPRENEURS OF THE COUNTRY”.
